School visits and hands-on workshops

“Workshops in horticulture and out of classroom learning” - All abilities and Key Stages catered for.

The Yourspace.sutton team work with a number of organisations and schools with out-of-the-classroom learning in work-based skills. We deliver a range of bespoke training, leisure or therapeutic activities tailored to the needs and requirements of participants. We also deliver both accredited and non-accredited courses and qualifications, including City & Guilds Training. We offer a range of high-quality horticultural workshops and courses to learners across the full ability and age range. We also seek to offer progression routes via work placements, volunteering opportunities, further training and qualifications or supervised work with our grounds maintenance delivery team working off-site maintaining the grounds of local schools, churches and residential homes.

Yourspace.sutton delivers tailored workshops for schools in line with Sutton’s ‘Every child’s journey into work matters’ objectives. We actively seek to engage the wider community, and the site and nursery, therefore have to be maintained appropriately to help facilitate the delivery of these programs as a vehicle for our long-term aims and regeneration of the site. The workshops can be curriculum-enriching or can lead to both non-accredited and accredited certification with OCN, Skills for Working Life or Award in Amenity Horticulture qualifications at Level 1 or Entry Level 2/3
as appropriate to each learner. Workshops can complement a range of subject areas on-going programmes of study or offer alternative provision and enrichment opportunities. Activities can be tailored to suit learners from mainstream secondary, special schools and further education colleges. The appropriate staff and individual support needs must support learners.

All Workshops are led by enthusiastic, qualified and experienced horticulturists covering a full range of horticultural skills. Workshops motivate and bring learning to life with all tasks, implementing safe and effective practices
in the workplace. Learners participate in structured workshops targeting specific outcomes and promoting the effective development of transferable work-based skills. Facilities at the Seears Park Nursery site include indoor and outdoor classrooms, poly and shade tunnels, a pond, raised beds, allotments and walk-through gardens, toilets and disabled access.
